On October 17th at the Paris Drouot auction house, a pair of green with pink striped slippers that presumably once graced the feet of French Queen Marie Antoinette were auctioned off for $81,275.

The shoes were only expected to be auctioned off for $8,000 to $13,000 as a part of their “Historic memories of Royal Families” sale. The Daily News reported that the shoes were sold to a telephone bidder, who will also receive a certificate of authenticity.

According to the Associated Press, Alexandre-Bernard Ju-Des-Rets was the person who gave these and five other pairs of slippers to Marie Antoinette. Earlier this year another pair of shoes worn by Marie Antoinette was sold for $57,000 at a French auction.
