After spending more than a decade searching for the right location, Nordstrom has announced plans to open up its first flagship store in New York City. And not a Rack or “concept shop“, but a REAL store.
The store will be located in a 285,000 square-foot space on the ground level of a not-yet-built skyscraper at 225 West 57th Street near Columbus Circle. The only downside? The store isn’t expected to open until 2018.
I’m sure a lot of people are jumping for joy right now. However, some retail analysts would advise against too much excitement just yet, as Nordstrom could still experience some setbacks like certain brands who have relationships with other NYC department stores not being able to sell to them; and the distance from other retail, which is primarily on the east side.
On the other hand, this could mean a revitalization of the Upper East Side in terms of retail. The Shops at Columbus Circle and Century 21 have made it work, why can’t Nordstrom?
Are you looking forward to the Nordstrom flagship store?
