Fashion icon Iris Apfel has been disappointed in the lack of arm coverings in today’s fashion world and thinks that the more mature ladies have even less to choose from. Trying to look fashionable without trying to look like you’re part of the too old crowd or the super young crowd can be quite the challenge.
Iris Apfel told the crowd at Hearst Design Group’s “The Best Of” lecture series:
The whole fashion business is wacky because this age group of women between 65 and 80 control so much money, they have all this expendable income. You go shopping and there is nothing to buy. You’re not supposed to buy widow’s weeds when you get older and you don’t want to look like a silly young chippy. It’s difficult. This year, fortunately, I’m told there are a few dresses on the market with sleeves. I used to say, if I had the time I would open a shop on Madison Avenue called Sleeves.
I totally agree, I’m quite the fan of sleeves…short, three-quarter, long sleeved, I actually prefer sleeves over sleeveless attire.
What are your thoughts about Apfel wanting to open a store dedicated to sleeved attire?
