There’s no other perfect way to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dragon than with Mathieu Mirano’s Fall 2012 collection. Inspired by what he describes as a feminine dragon rider that came to him in a dream, the collection boasts a color palette one would typically associate with a Chinese dragon motif — vivid red, gold, black, silver, navy blue. At the presentation hung three huge dragon heads!

That very dream also involved the sun, which was referenced in the collection through gold sunburst patterns and shapes on dresses and jackets. Sequins were fashioned to look almost scale-like and mid-length jackets appeared to have flaps that reminded me somewhat of what royalty would wear on a Chinese drama.

At the same time, the collection keeps things classic and modern with pieces like a pleated skirt, a chiffon peplum top, moto jackets, sheer dresses and a beautiful high-low silver and gray dress.

For me this presentation was an introduction to Mathieu Mirano. As such a great introduction, I’m looking forward to what’s to come from Mr. Mirano — well done!

Here are some photos I managed to take at the presentation:
