Immediately when I saw the red backdrop on the Reem Acra Fall 2012 runway, I knew the collection would mean business. And it did — Feminine Power served as the key inspiration behind Reem Acra’s Fall 2012 collection. Hot off the heels of dressing Madonna for the Golden Globes, why not? Acra expressed feminine power through the use of leather mixed with lace and chiffons for an interesting dynamic in looks that showed off a clean, sleek silhouette. Nothing says power like leather as a second skin! The color palette consisted of black, gold, burgundy and nude — not too mention a lot of shiny embellishments.
Femininity aside from the use of lace and chiffon, was achieved through skirt suits with nipped waist jackets, pencil skirts. One jacket in particular almost resembled a peplum jacket. Most evening looks took an art deco-turn and featured sexy (but strategically placed) cut-outs.
The collection overall cuts through the ladylike dressing trend of the moment with the use of leather and embellishments to speak empowerment. This to me is very refreshing!
