Tadashi Shoji’s Fall 2012 collection is said to be inspired by Marlene Dietrich and the, “Golden Age of Shanghai” but to me, it appeared to be a nod to the glamorous Jazz Age. Often, a lot of the dresses reminded me of Boardwalk Empire’s Lucy Danziger. Silhouettes for some of the dresses were loose and boxy with low drop waists, just as you would see on Lucy Danziger at the supper club. Some dresses had classic silhouettes and were long and form fitting with the exception of some maxi A-line tulle skirts. The palette of the collection ranged from champagne to jeweltoned shades. As with last season, Shoji included floral prints and featured velvet and lace detailing on some of the dresses.
Just before the unveiling of his Fall 2012 collection, there’s been much buzz about Oscar-hopeful Octavia Spencer (The Help) wearing a Tadashi Shoji dress to all of her red carpet appearances. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more Tadashi Shoji on the red carpet for the Oscars!
Here are some photos I managed to take at the runway show:
