Like a breath of fresh air, Katie Gallagher’s Fall 2012 collection titled “Silent Soil” strayed from the trend of girlyness that’s been popping up a lot lately. Instead, her “Silent Soil” collection is inspired by the idea that, “the forest a space that a city can not possess.” On a a deeper level, the collection is about, “bringing the atmosphere of the places that the spirit knows to the places that the body lives.” As such, the palette of the collection called to mind the colors of nature — deep forest green, brown, gray etc.
To me the collection is a twist on forest fairies or nymphs. There’s a dark quality of the clothes, almost gothic-looking with its long maxi skirts, drapery, strong shouldered jackets and elemments off undone-ness. Textures and layers of wool, fur and leather also co-exist together in the collection beautifully, giving the clothes a dreamy-ness. It’s the sense that nature while beautiful, is not perfect. This is also seen even in the way the models wore messy up updos that looked like a bunch of buns piled on each other.

Not a fan of this collection. Seems so dark and mysterious to me.
