Way back in 2008, December to be exact, a very kind artist painted a billboard in the area with a simple, yet sweet message: “You Look Nice Today” with a small, red heart beside it. Now, many years later, the same artist found out that her design is now seen on many doormats, pillowcases and towels at the Swedish retailer H&M.

Tori LaConsay told her story by emailing Regretsy which had pictures of her sign and the current products on offer. Since the photo of the actual art was posted in 2009, it’s definitely been around way before the products. Just by looking at them, it is super easy to see the almost exact resemblance. Besides the period which was left out, the designs are identical.

H&M, on the other hand, denies that the items are in any way similar. One of LaConsay’s friends emailed a complaint to the company about the stolen artwork, and this is the reply that she received,” We employ an independent team of over 100 designers. We can assure you that this design has not been influenced by your work and that no copyright has been infringed.”

At the moment, the budding artist is not going to sue, but many believe that she should. What do you guys think? Is it mere coincidence or is H&M going too far this time?
