Art Deco proved itself to be a strong theme for Carolina Herrera’s Spring 2012 collection. Separates and gowns were sent down the runway with patterns made of cubes and geometric shapes taking you back to the ’20s and ’30s when the movement was most alive. At the same time, the collection was also very luxurious looking as is the common characteristic of Carolina Herrera’s designs.

First, let us talk about the sparrow print! It was used on a few looks and is quite adorable. Unfortunately, from far away it kind of looks like corn ala Dolce & Gabanna’s Spring 2012 collection. It’s corn-y in a good way.

Geometric shapes are having a moment with Carolina Herrera. It is definitely hip to be square — I’m loving how bold the shapes are.

This is what Art Deco looks like on dresses. At first I’ll admit that it can look a little too busy, but it only takes a few moments for the eyes to adjust. You’d definitely have to go easy on accessories and be mindful of where you’re wearing the dresses to.
