Malan Breton, best known for starring as a Project Runway (Season 3) contestant showed his Spring 2012 collection at New York Fashion Week. Always one to support an Asian designer, I was there to show my support. Entitled Fantôme, Breton’s collection is inspired by the artwork of wildlife photographer John Aiden, and the Chinese ceremony of the New Moon. For those not keen on either, the collection is further described as incorporating the diaphanous movement of ethereal beings while still maintaining Breton’s signature Saville row tailoring.

The tailoring is seen most impeccable in the menswear for Breton’s Spring collection. In fact, I really feel like the menswear stole the spotlight. There were more menswear looks that were sent down the runway, made of silks in weaves of organza, chiffon, gazaar, and Breton’s signature Chinoise metal weave. Menswear was more colorful than the womenswear. The showstopper being a navy blazer paired with bright orange pants — sounds disgusting, but if you look at my pictures below it’s actually not bad. Womenswear bore mostly looks made of interesting prints that remind you of looking at a floral kaleidoscope with muted colors and occasional pops of green and blue.

I found that the menswear looks appeared to be more current and on trend, whereas the womenswear in the collection was classy and more refined. As if it was for Breakfast at Tiffany’s Paul Varjak and his sugar mama, Mag Wildwood — an interesting combination.

Speaking of interesting, you’ll notice I took photos of random people sitting — that’s actually Beyonce’s sister Solange Knowles, Miss J. Alexander, Danielle Evans (ANTM Cycle 6 winner) and…Jaslene (Cycle 8 winner) walked this show!

Here are some photos I managed to take at the show:
