The Spring 2012 collection that Vera Wang showed off for New York Fashion Week was absolutely gorgeous. From start to end, every piece can only be described as whimsical.
Starting off with a very clean display of white, the details were all in the fabric choices. With her playfully seductive use of cutouts and sheer coverings, the shapes here were pretty insanely fairy tale-like. It almost looked like they came from another time, though I have to love the vest pieces that feature the very proper collar detail.
Moving on, we get a bit of color with the inspired print fabric that she used. With a slight psychedelic feel, it pairs up really nicely against the white dress and gauze-like leggings. I have to admit, I’m a little smitten with these combos.
Perking up a bit more, we get this sunshine yellow that goes with that tropical color palette that we’ve seen more than once this week. Though in Vera Wang fashion, the intrigue comes in the details with the eyelet design. My favorite has to be the last outfit though, it just catches the right amount of attention to me and not to mention that cut!
A bit more toned down with the colors, though everything here is delightfully very strong. A bit of a play on the sheer trend with the middle, though the other two would play up the female shape very well.
Simply stunning, especially with how it incorporates the long skirt trend with the flowing silk material. The structured tops also makes a nice contrast that just looks super amazing.
A slight Alice in Wonderland feel comes with these, with the cotton candy colors and flouncy skirts. Very girlish and cute. It sort of reminds me of a tea party, don’t you think?
I feel like these would be sort of grown-up Alice in the real world. The color palette and playfulness is slightly the same, though the jacket of the first is definitely a bit bolder, but it just looks so refined at the same time.
The trippy print makes these a looker, yet it isn’t too distracting. I do love how they flow and catch in all the right places.
I feel reminiscent of the ocean with these. Each of them can definitely stand on their own in a crowd, yet it would also be able to carry along a gracefulness with how loud they are. Even for a few of the ones with more of that print incorporated, the slight chaos seems to just work that you don’t really want to look away.
Overall, I really enjoyed this collection. From the pictures, you can see that it was hard to not include almost every piece. The whimsical play with the fabrics and print was something that you sort of want with the Spring, something that isn’t so laid back that it’s boring because it’s plain. But instead, it can be a good thing to want to be a little eye-catching sometimes. Especially when you can do it oh-so-subtly and seductive, yet playful, like with most of the pieces in this collection.
