It was a print extravaganza at Anna Sui’s Spring 2012 collection for New York Fashion Week. Taking inspiration from the ’40s and ’70s, you can definitely get a strong retro and vintage vibe from everything. But it’s been delightfully perked up with chicness a bit for the modern woman.

With the first couple, the feminine woman shines through. Everything is just so girly - from the cut and print layering that is happening in the top two. Not to mention the fun headwrap trend that the models are sporting. It’s all very chic and they look ready to jet off on an adventure.

A bit of a change of pace now, with more of a stronger woman in mind. I can totally see these as great office wear, especially that blazer that looks just so cute! A bit flirty with the hemlines, but still classy. The fabric designs really shine here.

More playful dresses, especially everything about the one in red.

More cuts that show off a girly feel, with the bodice/slight sweetheart cut at the neck. Print play is in full effect and there’s even a bit of a call to the maxidress trend that everyone loved these past seasons.

Anyone else getting slight pinup girl vibes from the one on the right? Though it’s also pretty amazing at the same time. The one on the left looks absolutely darling to wear pretty much to everything - headwrap and all.

Now I wasn’t too sure about these, mainly from the crazy, almost vintage-looking print. But the more you look at it, it’s not that bad, especially if you’re going for a modern vintage look. It does bring in a bit of the short suits trend that has been popping up a lot this week, but done up in a more unexpected print.

Flower garden print explosion! Fitting, considering it will be spring and the love for florals is never too far away. Combining it with a few trends - jumpsuits, crochet, and sheer - there are a lot of different looks that would be perfect for that throw-it-on-and-go days.

Going a notch down from the bold prints, we get something that is still on track with the vintage and retro but in a more gentle and light color palette. It’s all very delicate, yet super girly at the same time. So gorgeous and glam.

More of the same, though the butterfly tights really make a nice finishing touch.

Closing out the show, we get back up to the fierce and strong woman. The prints are still there, but in a more seductive black. The woman wearing any of these would definitely capture your attention…and maybe your heart too.

A very fun collection overall. I was wary about so much print at first, but it brings a very fun mood back to dressing yourself. With the inspiration from the past, I love that it doesn’t really look “old” at all, rather there’s a breath of fresh air that comes along. Especially in being a little bit against everything that you’ve seen already for Spring.
