For Charlotte Ronson’s Spring 2012 show at New York Fashion Week, much of the inspiration came from a greater sense of ladylike fashion. Some from the Victorian era, bringing in lots of lace and button details to the ’70s, with the beloved bohemian flair.
I wasn’t too crazy about some of the pieces in this collection, mainly some of the textures and designs weren’t my particular cup of tea. But I was intrigued to see that the long skirt trend was present in this collection. Paired with the crop top, it takes a bit to pull it off, but the flow helps to make everything work.
Try as I might to see the good, I just can’t really get behind the patchwork look, especially when it was so matchy-match on the top and bottom. Pass for me. Similarly, it was the same with the overalls, though with the loose and light top, there was an okay balance and an interesting option if you were ever in a situation that needed an overalls uniform. But at least it worked it a little nicer than the one on the left.
Most of my favorite pieces ended up being the cute dresses that pranced down the runway. Many of which were in a very girly and light neutral color palette that pairs with Spring very delightfully. Not to mention the pairing idea of a light dress with a lightweight sweater top, which brings in some texture play. And the trouser socks! My secret love for them will definitely be revived for the Spring.
Much of the same ideas, more with Ronson playing around with different fabrics and prints, like that dark floral. I do spot a lot of rich jewel tones being used though, like with that golden mustard-like color.
Ending the show, we get taken to a classic feminine mood, with the ruffles, goddess-like flow with the fabric choice, and that very gorgeous shade of tangerine orange.
With the accessories in the show, something that really caught my eye was the two-tone belt necklace that most of the models wore. It was a bit quirky and different and I loved the flash of color that it gave as well. A bit of edge to the collection that was mostly made up of very ladylike outfits.
For me, the more simple pieces caught my eye the most, speaking mostly with their prints and details. Considering it would be for Spring, you can never go wrong with too many little sundresses, so I definitely loved that. For a few of the others, a bit of a miss, but overall, a pretty okay collection from Ronson for this upcoming Spring.
