Much of Nicole Miller’s Spring 2012 collection for this week’s New York Fashion Week could be described as colorful with an edge. From the prints to the silhouette, everything was pretty bold and screams youthful or just aimed to give you that little boost of attitude without you having to actually say anything but put it on.

Seen above, that crazy print was definitely one of the eye-catchers of the show. Though used for just the top and just a tailored pair of long shots, it works to give some spunk, alongside those too-cool-for-you shades. Neon colors returned for a peek in the dress next to it, which had some very interesting cutout features that were fun to see.

I wasn’t too crazy about these two though:

Mainly because I wasn’t really sure were my eyes should go. With the jumpsuit, which actually looks very nicely cut, slim, and intriguing with the zipper details seemed to get lose next to the crazy print from before - but this time instead of a balance it seems like too much. The second dress was okay, just didn’t look very flattering, though I was a bit partial to her clear jacket, for the sporty aesthetic.

I did really love these two though, just very casual cool with their slight athletic feel, but it’s able to be colorful without being too much. Not to mention how comfy it looks! I would seriously wear this in a second.

Almost the same sort of sporty feel but a bit more pulled together for someone who works in a pretty chill office. It’s professional but still has it’s own flair with the bright color palette, flowy blouses, yet neat bottoms.

Then it got a little less bright but still pretty gorgeous and motocross-inspired with the pants more. The jacket on the left was super chic to me, in just all black with that cutout patch pattern. Right top was just okay, sort of just on the same trend of what’s available right now.

With its sunset-esque design, I found these outfits really gorgeous. It all just works really well and the mix of neutrals makes it also pretty effortless to wear. I love the pairing of the loose top over the tight dress, makes it very forgiving - such a plus. The second’s casual mood would be a fun one to sport as well.

Ending the show was this tough number that brings in a lot of attitude with that leather bomber. Though it also brings in a nice representation of a few upcoming trends you’re sure to see this Spring, like sheer fabrics and mid-length skirts. Taking the girly tone and giving it some leather - I love the balance that this outfit has and how it closed the show.

Overall, a pretty cool show. You definitely cannot be afraid of color this Spring, with so many new types of prints that are coming out. All with a touch of neon, but it looks to be heading towards a more pleasant brightness that is more pretty than glaring. Pairing it with neutral pieces or having just peeks of it will help to transition you in more easily when the time comes. Sporty comfort chic also seems like it will be making more of a bang this season, which is a nice transition from the floral girlyness that took over last Spring.
