For Spring 2012, Alexander Wang has wholeheartedly welcomed the athletic chic trend that seems to be peeking in for this week’s New York Fashion Week. But of course in his own style and vision, he’s taken the trend and added in a bit of speed - incorporating inspiration from things like NASCAR, BMX, motocross - it’s all implemented in with such intrigue that you can’t help but want a piece of it all.

Hearing mesh, I wouldn’t think that I would like it on an outfit, but with how he has used it here to have the colorful outfits peeking from behind. I definitely love the effects that come from this, alongside putting it with the pants for sort of a tougher take on the sheer trend.

Moving on, we get a bit of a floral touch (it is for Spring, after all) though it’s a bit more casual with the cargo and nylon fabrics that he used. Still chic and in that throw-it-on-and-get-out-the-door type of fashion that Wang is noted for.

The dress segment had a lot of detail going on, with many of the top portions taking on anorak features, like with the drawstrings. The material looks to keep it feeling super comfy though.

More of that floral but this time it’s been toughed up immensely with the biker influence. From that rad helmet to just the sheer mesh and cutout jackets. The shape of the top on the far right is just so bold and screams “don’t mess with me.”

These weren’t my absolute favorite, but I think it looks a little less intense the more I see it. Strangely it is interesting, but then it also reminds me of a running uniform. The sheer strips on the first look seem to be a bit much.

For the racing aesthetic, I really thought these were cool. Something about the white pairing makes them stand out so much, without the colors having to be super neon. Instead it’s almost a tone down but still really pretty and the arrows that remind me of the speed inspiration. They’re definitely a one-piece statement, perfect to throw on and go.

Things went a bit more subtle here though the dark colors were also sexy on their own, after pairing them with sheer details and can’t forget those pockets. Pretty much just cute to me.

More dresses though the mesh has returned and so has the emblem-looking print that looks almost native or tribal-inspired . But in actuality, it’s actual a print from the seating blueprint of a stadium! Brings it all back to that sports inspiration with the arena that most of the speed sports are held in.

Similar for these pieces as well, which closed the show in such a fun way. I want to almost call them swimsuit coverups, but it somehow also works as an outfit for some insanely hot day. The white and clear poncho cape sports that stadium seating print again and wraps up this very athletic-inspired collection.

The more I see this collection, the more I find things that I can’t get out of my mind. Wang has a way of bring able to design things that is very fresh and aimed for the modern girl. With this collection, it’s for that girl on the go, who always seems to be moving and has somewhere to be. That “speed” is reflected here with how he used the gear from fast sports in his actual collection. Word is that he even went to a sneaker factory for some of the fabrics we saw here.

It’s all just really unexpected to see, yet would bring that intrigue that I love from the people around you to what you are wearing. And that goes for pretty much every piece here.
