Designer Doo-Ri Chung of Doo.Ri is well-known for her dress draping skills. It’s sort of her signature and a very gorgeous one at that. But being recognized for just one of her skills is probably a bit boring, so for the past few seasons, she’s been trying to show something else. It’s almost unexpected to see some of these pieces on her Spring 2012 RTW collection, but they are really something spectacular.
But what was shown for this week’s New York Fashion Week does just that, with pieces that actually have little or no draping at all, yet it all just works. Though possibly due to habit, a few draped dresses have snuck in but I’m sure we can forgive her after peeking at these delightful creations.
Starting off pretty gradually were these chic draped and wrapped dresses - the perfect type to just throw on and be out the door. The shoes are also pretty sweet, a bit knight-like with their armor-ish detail up the ankle.
Moving on, we get a bit of a fun print splashed into the lineup. I just love the combination of colors that are so bright against the neutral background. It keeps things from getting too much and not to mention how tropically pretty the color palette is! Worn with the shade shade of tangerine shoes - looks totally comfy and a subtle eye-catcher.
For the skills that are not drape-related, we get to see a bit with these light jumpsuits that are very flowy and with little ruffle details that makes everything very feminine and also a bit sexy with the shape that looks like it would make anyone look a few inches taller. I really like that she kept to a neutral palette, makes it pretty versatile as well.
Ending the show were these gorgeous gowns. Not too much of an emphasis on draping but man, do these babies flow. It gives off a very soft feel, yet there’s a bit of attitude that comes through with the one on the left with that revealing cut. Though the cuffed and military touch on the sleeves got me - so love.

Overall, I really enjoyed this collection from Doo.Ri. I thought the color palette was right on point, with nothing too bold and a lot of neutrals, which sort of work for that effortlessly chic look - something that I aim for when getting dressed in warmer weather.
The dresses and gowns were almost a given to be delightful, since she’s such a pro with that area. But seeing some of the other pieces, I’d say she shines there too, especially with the three outfits at the beginning of this post - totally my favorite out of them all.
