While Tadashi Shoji credits the tulip and its enchanting beauty and splendor as the inspiration for his Spring 2012 Collection, I saw inspiration from elsewhere. Elsewhere, as in a whole other decade. One that we’re currently in a love affair with; The ’70s. Specifically, I saw a lot of romance and glamor with all the sparkly lace, frills and tiered dresses that allow for a lot of movement. This isn’t to say that I didn’t see tulips.

Dresses in the collection were either of a muted, blush palette or the pastel colors of tulips. The shape of the dresses that opened the show resembled upside down tulips — lean silhouettes that have tulip-shaped bottoms. Nothing says Spring quite like a tulip does. Shoji does a great job of executing his vision in his designs!
