Do you like animals? Well, this piece of news won’t come pleasing you then. Being a fashionista icon, you expect Rihanna to dress adequately, but during her recent fragrance promotion in London, her style spoke otherwise.
While in London, promoting her new fragrance, she wore a cyan teal attire, embellished with feather like details. The look was a memorable moment and many people can describe it as being “bird-like”, maybe too bird like. It turns out that the feather like design was really actually made out of ostrich feathers!
PETA spokeswoman Sandra Smiley, heard the news and wasn’t pleased at all. This was what she had to say,
“Rihanna is flaunting stolen property, in this case feathers possibly plucked right off their rightful owners’ backs. She has shown little regard for foxes, cows and reptiles, now she’s adding birds to the list of species exploited for her dubious looks. Feathers are often ripped off chickens, geese, ostriches and emus in live plucking. This can result in gaping wounds that are sewn up with a needle and thread without anaesthetic. We keep hoping that Rihanna, a victim of violence herself, will learn to open her heart and start empathizing with the suffering of others. That includes the animals who are beaten, gassed, electrocuted and poisoned to be turned into fashion accessories.”
To be honest, I hate fur. I hate the feel of it, the look of it and most importantly the fact that it comes from animals. I just can’t stand knowing that someone else’s skin is on me, furthermore I came to a realization that I wouldn’t want to be killed and slaughtered just for my skin (that is if anyone is up for it).
Although, I do not condemn Rihanna weaning animal fur, well to an extent anyways, I don’t think she should have worn something so contrasting to her perfume conference which is supposedly trying to exemplify sexy, naiveness and innocence. What do you think?
