Spring 2011 Runway Trend: Nautical

The style this season has been rolled out on the runaway from designers like Junya Watanabe, Christian Dior and Viktor & Rolf. It seems like they’re reading to sail off to the seven seas as their collection consists of many sailor-styled outfits. TeenVogue says to think, “nautical stripes, crisp white shirts, wide collars, high-waisted sailor pants and flirty flared skirts,” which makes it a lot easier to picture their sailor-inspired clothing.

Like the idea of the look? You can achieve it by wearing something with blue (likely navy) and white stripes that are “Parisian-approved.” You can also try to match this style with your own pair of white or navy blue pants along with a boatneck sweater which never fails to look good.

If you’re more feminine or formal, you can pull off this look with a maxi dress with stripes and pair it with a trench coat you like. If you’re looking to look even older or sophisticated you can wear a nice shirt dress and belt it at the waist.

You can even avoid purchasing a whole new outfit if your wardrobe is already filled with the classic nautical colors being navy, white and red. Simply finish your ensemble with a pair of white brogues or keds and you’re set to board the ship!
