With summer fading quickly into fall, the fashion world has cooked up seven new trends for those who are always looking to change up their wardrobe. Just be warned–these are not for the light-hearted (nor the light-pocketed).
1. Back to the Fifties
The 50s are making a comeback, so say hello to hourglass figures once again. If you’re not sure what the fifties are all about, just think poodle skirts and petticoats. This fall is all about cleavage, nipped-in waists, and full on curves–with a modern take of course.
2. Mad Fur (Real and Faux)
If Chanel’s Fall 2010 RTW collection wasn’t enough to clue you in on trend number two, let me spell it out for you nice and easy. F-U-R, of all shapes and sizes. From patchworked to circular rings around the waist, this is definitely one of the hottest trends this season.
3. All Hues
Forgetting pairing your blue skirt with a yellow top. This fall is all about one color from top to bottom, in all shades and hues. So take your favorite color (mine is yellow, by the way) and wear it from head to toe. Then walk out your house like a model strutting down the runway. You’ll be doing color, in style.
4. Men’s for Women
Move over, the opposite gender. Nothing’s been as sexy as women strutting down the runway in power suits and formal attire. Menswear inspired suiting and outerwear are key features this fall, tying in nicely with the minimalist idea that’s been going around.
5. The Gold Standard
This fierce metallic color is back in vogue, so deck yourself all out. Whether it’s in the form of makeup, embellishments, or a full-on shimmery dress, gold is definitely making a strong statement this fall. So toss out your boring brown cardigans and find a color that sparkles.
6. Maximum Length
Goodbye mini-skirts, those were so last season. Say hello to long dresses and skirts that go past your angles and trail the floor. Everything, even the cardigans are now maxi-length. Afraid of getting lost in all the volume? Cinch on a belt to create that hour-glass shape we mentioned in trend one.
7. Wrapped Up
And finally, a bit pre-season, but designers have been taking a more and more approach (going somewhat against the minimalist ideology. Layering has never been so hot, literally. With all the extra scarves and wool, you’re guaranteed to never go cold this season.
As can be seen from the models, a lot of the trends overlap, as good fashion should. I personally don’t see myself trying on a lot of these latest fads (imagine me walking into class with a full-on neon yellow power suit). But like always, I enjoy seeing what the elusive high fashion world has cooked up for us this time around. And we can always tone it down a little bit (or a lot).

Awesome roundup! I’m excited about trying to incorporate some of these into my wardrobe in a more subtle way… although I think you should totally go for the neon yellow power suit
