I found this little tidbit of information on Fashionista sort of interesting: the average American today only spends about 2.98% of their annual income on clothing. If that doesn’t seem like a huge number to you, compare it to the 11% that people spent in 1950!

Of course, you have to take into account that in 1950, clothing cost a lot more than it does today, so people spent more money on less clothing. Today, we have mega chains like H&M and Forever 21 that help us to cheaply supplement our wardrobes (often at the price of poor quality garments, but still).

I definitely would rather have quality pieces over quantity, but with money being a little tight lately I am definitely more open to the big chains for additions to my closet.
