On Sunday, I stopped by at the LORICK Fall 2010 presentation, and as soon as I entered the Union Square Ballroom I knew I was in for a treat. Fun music played, and the first thing you could see was a giant, white sheet with the models’ shadows cast across it.

The designer, Abigail Lorick, named this collection, “Anges et Cocons”, or “Angels and Cocoons,” as she mixed light and nature with an escape from reality. Translation? Sturdy, fall fabrics in earthy colors that still somehow managed to look beautifully flirtatious and ladylike.

The collection consisted of 15 looks, almost all of which were the dreamy LORICK dresses that I hope will someday fill my wardrobe. My favorite look was this Michaela dress — a simple and sophisticated color with asymmetric neckline and lots of texture! I also love the necklace that she’s wearing with it — black stones covered in rhinestones. I need to find out where it came from!

I enjoyed the fact that she mixed feminine, sparkling fabrics with heavy tweeds, like this look on the left. It looks as though the model wore a cute outfit to a party, and then bundled up in this classic coat to make her way home — a reality for us New Yorkers who dislike sacrificing style for harsh weather!

Also, notice the sparkly tights? They add a little bit of playfulness to the polish of the outfits, don’t you think?
