It’s the golden rule of every fashionista that you should always mix tasteful vintage with modern pieces to achieve instant chic. I, for one, tend to question the notion of ‘instant chic.’ It’s not everyday I have an instant to put together an outfit that mixes vintage and modern, and I’m not one to coordinate my closet like Cher from Clueless. Vintage or thrift shopping for me is haphazard; See it, love it, buy it. Don’t even think about what modern pieces I have in my wardrobe that’ll complement my purchases. Apparently, I didn’t receive the memo on this Fall season taking a turn for dark colors and deeper textures. Not that a memo is necessary, I’m well aware that fashion gets darker every Fall. Frankly, I just like what I like, and for now I am digging messy bows, out-of-place lace, random florals and over-sized accessories. Think garden tea party meets punk. Ironically, one of my most beloved fashion editorials is beloved not for fashion, but for the desserts featured. The dessert gives the entire Vogue Girl Korea March ‘07 fashion editorial that element of fantasy. Who wouldn’t want to be surrounded by cute cakes and candies and not gain a pound? Put me in this editorial and it’d be more nightmare than fantasy. More »

While androgyny in womenswear seems to be the current trend in fashion, Marc Jacob’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection has proved otherwise with the incorporation of satin and ruffles. The collection isn’t even two weeks old and it’s been seen on Lady Gaga by way of an amazing ruffled satin and lace champagne number that screamed femininity at a press conference this week.
